Abstract

Western contemporary art theory is not a fixed or singular form but a knowledge system constructed from various different ideas, capable of cyclical and reproductive generation. Within this system, the interpretation of theoretical knowledge from a practical standpoint is particularly prominent. Cynthia Freeland’s new perception theory, Terry Barrett’s comprehensive interpretation theory, and Mark Getlein’s hermeneutics of meaning are critical components. Their commonality lies in their focus on the practical analysis of contemporary art, which provides strong support for the dissemination of contemporary art. These micro art theories, philosophical principles, and cultural theories form the basis of Western contemporary art theory. Practical exposition of art theory can provide new perspectives for the development of art theory in China. Therefore, it is essential to base our efforts on China's current situation, effectively interpret art in practice, and make China's art theory more distinctive.
