Abstract

Massive rotator cuff tears represent a severe type of rotator cuff injury, characterized by large, complex, and difficult-to-repair tear areas. Current research and practice for treating massive rotator cuff tears include a variety of methods, mainly conservative treatment, surgical treatment, and some emerging technologies. The main treatment measures are conservative and surgical treatments. Traditional open surgery remains a common method for treating irreparable massive rotator cuff tears. By using the deltoid approach to expose the torn rotator cuff tissue and fixing the torn rotator cuff tissue with sutures, with the advancement of technology, arthroscopic minimally invasive surgery has gradually become the mainstream choice. Therefore, the treatment research of massive rotator cuff tears has made new breakthroughs in surgical techniques and the application of biomaterials, providing more effective treatment options for patients. Based on this, this article provides a detailed review of the pathogenesis, current treatment status, and treatment measures of massive rotator cuff tears.
