Abstract

To investigate the factors influencing the starting salaries of postgraduate graduates majoring in foreign languages, this study collected data on the starting salaries of full-time master’s graduates from the School of Foreign Languages at a comprehensive university in China between 2018 and 2023. Independent sample t-tests and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were employed to identify the key factors affecting the starting salary levels of these graduates. The study identified four critical influencing factors: gender, major, level of economic development, and nature of employment unit. This study aims to identify the key variables influencing the starting salaries of postgraduate students majoring in foreign languages and to uncover the underlying factors driving salary variations. It seeks to provide a scientific basis for formulating more precise and effective career planning strategies for these students, enhancing their competitiveness in the job market. Furthermore, the findings are expected to contribute to the rational mobility of foreign language professionals and the overall development of society.
