The objective of this research is to find out whether or not the effectiveness of using the Circumlocution Strategy improves the speaking achievement of the second-grade students of SMPN 27 Makassar. The research utilized a pre-experimental method. The population of this research was the second-grade students of SPMN 27 Makassar, with a total number 60 students, and utilized a purposive sampling technique. In collecting the data, the researcher administered speaking tests, which consisted of two tests: a pre-test and a post-test. The result shows that there is a significant difference between the men’s scores on pre-test and post-test (2.13>3.56) of the students’ speaking achievement. The value of the t-test is 3.16 while the value of the t-table is 2.262. It means that the value of the t-test was higher than the value of the t-table. Based on the research, the researcher concluded that the implementation of the Circumlocution Strategy can increase the students’ speaking achievement, particularly for second-grade students of SMPN 27 Makassar.
