Abstract

This article aims to explore the function of accumulating foreign cultural capitals by means of translation training design. The study indicates that most students from the rural areas and from the emigrant families tend to understand and in-terpret the original ideas in terms of over-translation or under-translation, resulting in inappropriateness of language expression, cultural information deviation, departure of original implications and etc. The present study founds that cultural initiative-orientated translation training strategies TCIO (trust, comparison, integration, originality) can help those students who lack cultural capital to modify the deficiency of cultural knowledge. This study attempt to use a pre-/post-test control group research design to prove efficacy of TCIO method. In this study, empirical results were adopted concerning the cultural accumulation-orientated translation training plan. In this studying process, three typical types of text (philosophical text, classical novel, technical essay) were applied and translated in the two groups. Within the scope of TCIO strategy, the experimental group participated in training program such as giving description about how to understand the original text, presenting the comparative analysis, how to integrate the original idea into target text, how to achieve originality in target culture. On the other hand, the control group was engaged in the traditional teaching method. The research findings show a statistically significant difference in this training program in the experimental group. The data also illustrate that that the accumulation of cultural capitals from translating practice is effective and significant in the realization of cultural originality.
