Abstract

Taking Lanping County in Nujiang Prefecture, Yunnan Province, as a case study, this paper explores the challenges and pathways to achieving balanced development of high-quality compulsory education in regions inhabited by “direct transition” ethnic groups. By reviewing the evolution of ethnic minority education since the founding of the People’s Republic of China and examining the current state of compulsory education in Lanping County, the study identifies key issues such as discontinuities in the educational chain, language barriers, and insufficient family education support. On this basis, the paper proposes strategies including constructing a comprehensive educational quality improvement system, promoting bilingual instruction, and strengthening collaborative efforts among families, schools, and communities. These measures aim to facilitate the balanced development of high-quality compulsory education in Lanping County and similar “direct transition” regions, thereby fostering ethnic unity and regional coordinated development.
