Classical Chinese poetry is characterized by a harmonious integration of form, meaning, and spirit, which is conveyed through suggestive silence, imagistic density, and tonal resonance. A nuanced hermeneutic engagement that negotiates profound cultural and linguistic differences is necessary to translate it into English, a language that is influenced by linearity and explicitness. Through a critical literature review and a mixed-methods framework that integrates theoretical hermeneutics, comparative linguistics, and phenomenology, this investigation investigates these cross-cultural tensions. It recognizes critical obstacles, such as the challenge of conveying the inherent ambiguity and immediacy of the originals, the attenuation of prosodic and tonal features, the contrast between the compactness of Chinese characters and the expansiveness of English, and the culturally dense historical allusions. In order to achieve a balance between fidelity and intelligibility, the research proposes three integrated strategies: hermeneutic retrieval, aesthetic compensation, and dialogical synthesis. Translation is a profound cross-cultural and epistemological act that necessitates both scholarly rigor and poetic sensibility to transmit Chinese literary wisdom to the world, as demonstrated by a case study of Xu Yuanchong’s 300 Tang Poems. This study demonstrates how translation can preserve the existential and aesthetic essence of Tang poetry.
