Special Issue
Dear Colleagues,
As food contamination incidents and regulatory scrutiny continue to grow at an unprecedented scale, the need for innovative methodologies and interdisciplinary approaches to develop, validate, and deploy analytical detection methods has become increasingly critical. Food chemistry and analytical instrumentation stand at the forefront of this transformation, offering new pathways for identifying trace contaminants and enabling rapid, reliable safety assessment. Meanwhile, the integration of advanced detection platforms presents both unprecedented opportunities for precision monitoring and significant challenges in ensuring method standardization, addressing matrix interference, and maintaining sensitivity, specificity, and regulatory compliance.
This special issue aims to explore the intersection of analytical chemistry, contaminant detection, food safety monitoring, and regulatory science. It seeks to highlight cutting-edge research, methodological breakthroughs, and integrative frameworks that enhance the design, validation, and responsible application of advanced food analysis techniques. Topics of interest include:
• Machine learning and statistical methods for contaminant fingerprinting and classification
• Interdisciplinary frameworks for integrating chromatography, spectrometry, and biosensors
• Equity, access, and representation in food monitoring databases and testing cohorts
• The evolving role of laboratories and analysts in rapid contaminant screening
• Ethical and algorithmic fairness in food safety risk prediction models
• Data sharing, method validation, and laboratory agency in contaminant detection
• Comparative studies on analytical performance across matrices and contaminant classes
• Policy and workforce development for sustainable food safety integration
We welcome original research articles, case studies, and reviews that contribute to advancing the dialogue and practice in this dynamic and evolving field.
Authors should submit their manuscripts for the special issue by emailing them as an attachment to specialissue@hillpublish.com or by using the online submission system. The manuscript should be submitted by one of the authors, and submissions by anyone other than the authors will not be accepted. Additionally, the submitted manuscript should include a cover letter that specifies the special issue to which the manuscript is being submitted.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). The submitted papers should be properly formatted and written in fluent English. All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Guidelines page.
