Multi-Omics Integration in Food and Nutrition Research

Dear Colleagues,

As multi-omics data generation in food and nutrition research continues to grow at an unprecedented scale, the need for innovative methodologies and interdisciplinary approaches to integrate, validate, and translate omics tools for food science applications has become increasingly critical. Foodomics and nutritional systems biology stand at the forefront of this transformation, offering new pathways for deciphering food composition and enabling individualized dietary strategies. Meanwhile, the integration of multi-omics data presents both unprecedented opportunities for precision nutrition and significant challenges in ensuring data interoperability, addressing analytical biases, and maintaining sample integrity and biological validity.

This special issue aims to explore the intersection of foodomics, multi-omics integration, nutritional science, and translational application. It seeks to highlight cutting-edge research, analytical breakthroughs, and integrative frameworks that enhance the design, implementation, and responsible deployment of omics-driven food and nutrition solutions. Topics of interest include:

• Machine learning and statistical methods for multi-omics data integration

• Interdisciplinary frameworks for integrating multi-omics in food and nutrition decisions

• Equity, access, and representation in foodomics databases and nutrition cohorts

• The evolving role of food scientists and bioinformaticians in nutritional research

• Ethical and algorithmic fairness in multi-omics risk prediction models

• Data sharing, consent management, and sample agency in foodomics research

• Comparative studies on multi-omics performance across populations and food systems

• Policy and workforce development for sustainable foodomics integration

We welcome original research articles, case studies, and reviews that contribute to advancing the dialogue and practice in this dynamic and evolving field.

Guest Editors

Authors should submit their manuscripts for the special issue by emailing them as an attachment to specialissue@hillpublish.com or by using the online submission system. The manuscript should be submitted by one of the authors, and submissions by anyone other than the authors will not be accepted. Additionally, the submitted manuscript should include a cover letter that specifies the special issue to which the manuscript is being submitted.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). The submitted papers should be properly formatted and written in fluent English. All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a double-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Guidelines page.
